I am a Feminist

What is Feminism?

I am a feminist. I know that many people do not know what this word means or they mistake it for something else. Today, it is my goal to help other people understand what it is I am fighting for.

Feminism is the belief in the social, political and economic equality of both genders regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, religion, sexual orientation or ability.  Or in simpler form, it is the complete equality between both genders.

Some people would ask, “Isn’t that just gender equality?” Yes, it is gender equality. But then people will ask, “If it is gender equality why are you only focusing on women?” Our focus is on women because women are the ones at a disadvantage. Women are the ones who usually face sexism. Now, don’t come and tell me, “But men face sexism too!” I know that.

Men have more benefits then women do. We don’t want to take away your benefits, we just want to make sure women have those same benefits. Think of it this way, the men have a fully furnished, very nice house. Women do not have a house at all. The women fight for their rights and finally build a house. Now the men have a fully furnished house and women have an empty house. Again, the women fight and they get furniture for their house. Now the men and women are equal right? That’s it. That is all we are trying to do. We don’t want to take anything away from you, we just want to give women the same rights, benefits and everything you have. We want things to be equal.

Again going back to the, “Men face sexism too!” We know that men face sexism as well, and we know it is bad. Feminists work to help men as well. Feminists think that if we can bring equality to women, it will go hand in hand with bringing equality to men. But we have to remember, a problem with society today is that we have made a fight for women’s rights all about men again. What does that say about our society?

I’ll leave you thinking about that today. I hope you understood feminism a bit more. I know that I haven’t even skimmed the surface about what feminism today but I wanted everyone to have a basic understanding of what it is. I’ll be exploring more about feminism is my later posts.

I Was The Monster I Was Terrified Of

When I was younger I didn’t have a whole lot of self confidence. I would always hold myself back because I was worried about what other people would say. I didn’t want to be judged and it was a constant fear of judgmental people. This led to not wanting to bring attention to myself and being a very quiet person. But that’s when I realized something,  I am the people I fear so much. I would judge people based on what they were doing or what they were wearing. It scared me because I was the monster I was so terrified of.

A Leader Amongst Leaders

When I was younger I used to categorize people into leaders and followers. Leaders would be the head of the pack, the one who made decisions, had an opinion and something to say. Leaders would always surge ahead and well, lead. Followers, on the other hand, usually follow behind the leaders, letting the leaders experiment and test and when the leader deems what ever it is they doing safe, the followers follow. Followers usually just listen to everything a leader says and they back it up. Followers are usually the people who are a bit more cautious or scared. (more…)

Spread the Positivity!

Negativity is something that spreads just as quickly as happiness or optimism, it is also something that sometimes shows up even more then happiness or optimism shows up. In our world today people throw around negative comments and thoughts so easily. I see it so much, people telling others to,”go die.” or “you know, you’re kinda fat.” I absolutely detest this. Even if people mean it as a joke, there will always be people (MEEEEEEEEEE) who, in their bad moments, this will keep popping into their head. When they are trying to be confident about themselves suddenly they think, that one person told me that they don’t like the way I look. It completes tears us down.  (more…)

Bringing Yourself Up Without Pulling Yourself Down

Something I’ve noticed is that people set a goal for themselves but if they don’t reach that goal, even if they are close, they will really kick themselves down for it. I don’t see t9b92bd5727275e60b03a81fe540af82che point in that. Yes, it will make you want to do better next time but what about right now? How do you feel in that moment? Not too good, right? Ask yourself why you are doing this to yourself?

I used to do this too, but that was before I had one of my falls. Well, more then a fall it was like I was slapped in the face by reality. After reality gave me his hand and pulled me up I realized a few things; one of these things is that you should celebrate your accomplishments. (more…)
